Founder

HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, the founder and creator of the Award. He chaired the UK’s Board of Trustees from inception to 2000 and the Foundation’s Board of Trustees from its inception in 1986 also to 2000. The structure, content and principles are largely of his making and the Award would not be where it is in the world or have achieved the status it now holds without him. As such, he retains a strong interest in its ongoing development and a say in its direction.
